Frequently Asked Questions

  • How small will my document remains be once they are shredded?

Our mobile shredding unit cross-cuts all of the documents that are placed in the machine. The document remains will measure to be approximately 5/8. These small pieces of what used to be a document are far more secure than strip-cut shreddings that are typically produced from an in house shredder.

  • What do you do with the documents after they have been shredded?

Once the documents have been shredded the confetti-sized pieces of paper are transported to a recycling facility.

  • What types of information might my company produce that I should have shredded?

All businesses no matter what the type produce sensitive and private. Some examples may include, but are not limited to:
o Clientele lists

o Service prices
o Sales ideas
o Sales statistics
o Tax information
o Job quotes
o Advertising ideas
o Medical records
o Data print outs
o Accounting information
o Cancelled checks
o Payroll information
o Employee records
o Financial records
o Contracts
o Legal documents
o Credit card applications/receipts
o Miscellaneous documents that you may not feel contain confidential information, but are still recyclable

  • Where do I put the information that I want shredded until you come to pick it up?

Dominion Document Shredding supplies any bins/ consoles that are requested by our Client's free of charge. Clients simply place all documents to be handled by Dominion Document Shredding in the bins/consoles and we pick up its contents as requested.

  • How frequently do you pick up the contents of our bin to shred them?

Initially we will schedule pick ups every 2 weeks; however, the client may request fewer or more frequent pick ups as needed. We may need to pick up as frequently as everyday or as little as once a month. We modify your pick up schedule to meet your needs.

  • What happens if our container is full before our regular scheduled pick up?

Just call us. We will be more than happy to schedule an extra pick up. If this happens on a regular basis, we may need to discuss providing your company with additional bins/consoles or increase the frequency of your pick ups.

  • Is it necessary to sort the contents of the bins or remove paper clips, staples or binder clips?

No. Our employees are trained to handle any pre-shred procedures that may be necessary.

  • How can I be certain that my confidential documents have been completely destroyed?

An authorized person shall come out to the truck and witness/acknowledge the destruction of the designated materials by signature. Upon the completion of destruction, a "Certificate of Destruction" is issued for auditing purposes. The signature of the authorized persons shall be conclusive proof that Dominion Document Shredding has destroyed the designated materials to the Client's full satisfaction.

  • When will I receive an invoice for the services?

Dominion Document Shredding will issue a bill to the Client following the pick up of the designated materials. Payment is requested within 15 calendar days.

  • What size jobs do you offer your services for?

There is no job too big or too small. Our truck has the capacity to hold up to 10,000 lbs of paper.

  • We use a recycling company for our unwanted documents so why would I need a shredding service?

Recycling services are great to have; however they are not designed to provide security or compliance with privacy and security laws. Your entire document and all of its contents are transported, so if an accident should occur, your confidential information would be available and viewed by everyone. If safe guarding the environment is important to you...Dominion's document shreddings are 100% recyclable.

  • I have an in-house office shredder and do all of my own shredding. Why would you recommend I use your services?

Dominion Document Shredding is a lot more cost effective. You will recognize a savings of 25% over in-house shredding operations. This allows your employees to be more productive by performing other tasks.

  • We store our records so why do we need a shredding service?

Most records have to be retained over a certain period of time due to legal requirements. However, once that time frame has passed, those documents may be discarded. A way to properly discard them is to shred them in their entirety.

  • I am self employed. Do you shred residential or home office documents?

We are more than happy to serve all shredding needs regardless of where they come from. We hope to sponsor "Community Shredding Events". At these events our shred truck will be available for shredding to the general public for a minimal fee.

  • What if I only need to use your service one time or on an annual basis?

This is not a problem. Whatever your requirements, from daily activity to annual purges, we are happy to meet your needs.

  • Why is on site shredding better than off site?

Once your documents leave your location, you can never be sure what actually happens to them, or who may see or have access to them. A lot can happen from the time documents leave your location until they reach their final destination. When we shred on site you witness that the job was done right.
